My passion for cooking was nurtured in early childhood. I was the little girl who loved to cook…often watching and helping Mum in the kitchen, or sitting for hours flicking through her cookery books.
I have fond memories of good wholesome home-cooking and baking and clearly remember sitting around the kitchen table enjoying family meals made from foraged fruits and vegetables or grown in our home garden.
I soon developed a more adventurous side to my cooking, influenced by the culinary skills of Graham Kerr “The Galloping Gourmet”, Delia Smith, Gary Rhodes and the television series “Masterchef”. Marco Pierre White is however my all-time food hero!
I formed the Quirky Cook in October 2008, taking my years of cooking and baking to a "professional level" working from my home kitchen in Borrowash, Derby. Over the years, I have established myself as a respected artisan food producer, mostly self-taught with some professional training.
I continue to hold the same ethos as I was taught in my early years. Products are made from scratch, using the purest of ingredients to minimise artificial preservatives and allergens. No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners are added. Most of my range is suitable for vegans and vegetarians and gluten-free. I enjoy transforming natural ingredients into something very special.
After 11 years and 7 Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards since 2016...including the coveted title of "Ambient Product of the Year in 2018, the decision was taken to move the food production out of the home kitchen and into our new premises The Quirky Cook Kitchen and Deli at 48 Station Road, Sandiacre.
Not only has this provided the opportunity to increase production but we now have the space to host half-day and full day weekend cookery classes as well as monthly supper clubs and even showcase our products for retail sales to the general public.
